1. Who we are
tixandvotes is operated by Mackelpas Nigeria Limited (RC 1330755), the data controller for the personal data described here. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Contact us about your data at hello@tixandvotes.com.
2. What we collect
- Voters: your email address, the votes you bought (competition, contestant, number of votes, amount and time), whether you ticked the optional updates box, and the internet address (IP) and browser details your device sent when you paid.
- Organizers and partners: your name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way scrambled code), the name shown to fans, your bank name, account number and account name for payouts, the terms you accepted and when, your sign-in history with Google if you use it, and what you create on the platform (competitions, categories, contestants and photos).
- Payments: card details are entered on our payment provider's page (Paystack) and never reach us. We keep the payment reference, amount, status and payment channel.
- Visits: basic server logs (address, page, time) to keep the service secure.
3. Cookies
We use a few first-party cookies and no advertising trackers:
- a sign-in cookie, only when you log in, to keep you signed in;
tv_ref: the partner referral code from a partner's link, for 30 days, so the referral is credited if you sign up as an organizer;tv_src: where your first visit came from (for example a campaign link), for 30 days, to learn which channels bring organizers.
4. Why we use it
- to take payments, count votes and send receipts (to perform our agreement with you);
- to pay organizers and partners, keep accounts secure, and prevent fraud and abuse (our legitimate interests and our agreement);
- to keep records the law requires, such as payment and tax records (legal obligation);
- to send updates about a competition, only if you ticked the optional box (your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
5. Who we share it with
- Paystack, to process payments and pay organizers.
- The competition's organizer: vote counts and amounts per contestant. Organizers don't receive voters' email addresses unless you ticked the updates box for their competition.
- Our service providers: hosting (our servers), email delivery (Brevo) and Google sign-in, each only as needed to run the service.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
We never sell personal data. Some providers may process data outside Nigeria; where they do, we rely on the safeguards the Act allows.
6. How long we keep it
Payment and vote records: at least six years, for accounting and tax. Organizer and partner accounts: while the account is open, then up to six years for records we must keep. Server logs: up to 90 days. Updates consent: until you withdraw it.
7. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it (where we don't have to keep it), restrict or object to how we use it, take a copy, and withdraw consent. Email hello@tixandvotes.com; we reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
8. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections, stored on secured servers, and backed up in encrypted form. Only people who need it to run the service can reach it.
9. Changes
When this policy changes, the version and date at the top change. Material changes are announced on the site.
